The mission statement for the Girls’ Brigade by GBHQ Singapore is “Every Girl a leader, Every Officer a Servant Leader”.  Life BPC is privileged to be the sponsoring church for the 13th Company of the Girls Brigade in Singapore since 2013.

Every year GBHQ Singapore marks off 2 weeks in the month of July for all GB Companies in the whole island to raise funds. The purpose is to train, develop, and equip GB girls in becoming a leader through the following:

1)    Leadership Training Camps – The theme “One for Another” adapted from 1 Thess 5:11 is fivefold aimed at (a) building each other (b) taking on more leadership responsibilities (c) team work and independence (d) being a role model (e) conflict management skills.

2)    Dr Low Guat Tin Challenge – this is a mission project to sponsor students who are less fortunate in Asia where there is a GB presence, to attend school, by providing them with at least a primary education.

3)    Leadership conference – A one-day workshop for all girls in their final year in Secondary School which aims to equip girls to make important decisions as they move on to the next stage of their lives.

Ruth Gilson (GB England) duly pointed out that “By supporting Girls’ Brigade, prayerfully and financially, you will provide the support needed to ensure that the mission is fulfilled among this generation of girls.”

Over the last three years, three batches of girls from the 13th Coy have benefitted from such programs organized by GBHQ. One way that Life BPC can help to play a part in training these girls organized by GBHQ is through our giving.

Sgt Nishantinee Sathe, “On 7 Feb 2015, we attended the GB Leadership Conference organized by GBHQ. It was a fun and enriching programme where we learnt about leadership. I could really see my mindset and objectives in life changing after attending that particular course. There were also GB national camps in GBHQ where girls from all over Singapore come together. I liked the national camps where I met new friends and exchanged new thoughts and ideas as well as learnt precious lessons.”

One cannot agree more that the following two comments aptly summarizes the connection between the Church and GB:

“GB groups are some of the most effective bridges built between the church and their communities – they’ve so much mission potential.” ~ Juliet Kiplin, GB England.

“GB is great at working with girls who do not have a church background. The fun and friendship they enjoy provides a non-threatening platform that enables us to explore the Christian faith and gospel together.” ~ Ruth Gilson, GB England.

Indeed, we are thankful to God for the opportunity to sow the Gospel Seed over the last 3 years and all Glory be to God for leading 3 girls in accepting Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and in baptism.

Sec 1 Endian: “‘Christmas isn’t Christmas till it happens in your heart”. This is the lesson I learnt after attending the Christmas gathering at Life Bible-Presbyterian Church. We always think that Christmas is a season to shop and enjoy, thus forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. But the meaning of Christmas is different for me this year. It is one of the most memorable events as I get to celebrate Christmas with my fellow GB friends and teachers, followed by a buffet lunch. I guess what made this day really special is singing the song “NN<yir” in front of fellow brothers and sisters-in-Christ. Initially, I was very nervous as I was anxious that I may not sing well. However, the applause from the church made me feel otherwise. It has motivated me to do even better next time given the opportunity.”

Sec 3 Emily: “Before attending the Christmas celebration in Church, all I had in my mind was just to have fun today. However, it turned out different as I got to learn new things and understand what Christmas really means. Amidst having fun, I got to know Jesus better through the Word that was shared and the songs that were sung. Jesus indeed died for our sins and with His blood, He cleanses us from our sins. Sins like being dishonest, defiant to authorities and doing things that we are not supposed to do. Lying is such a common thing found in human but yet it is sinful. Jesus was born of God, perfect and yet with a humble beginning. He was born to a family who didn’t earn much in carpentry but Jesus went about healing and helping a lot of people. He walked everywhere. There is no one more perfect than Jesus. Lastly, the different colors – white is about purity and being pure; red is the blood that Jesus shed for our sins.”

Next Sunday on 24th July 2016, the GB girls will be in church for GB Fortnight. This is a great opportunity for Lifers to be engaged in this local ministry right at our very door-step! By mingling and befriending them, we can not only build a platform for sowing the Gospel Seed but we can also pray more specifically for them. To help you locate the girls next Sunday, a time schedule is provided below:
