Her children arise up the and call her blessed,  her  husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28

King Lemuel writes in praise of his mother.  While it is a good idea to have a day to specially  remember mother,  yet we must be aware that mother’s love is a constant daily affection. Even in her anger she intends to teach us to know our mistakes.  Christian mothers who fear God are to be praised.

We all remember mother’s care for us when we were growing up. Weaning is a special care that only nursing mothers can provide.  Both Moses and Samuel were weaned by their mothers.  They grew up to be used of God and to lead their nation. Samuel’s mother,  Hannah,  after she had weaned Samuel,  lent him to the LORD to serve God as long as he lived.

My mother, when she came to know the Lord, took the name of Ruth. Her Bible is well read and she served her church in visitation and evangelism.  My mother in law came to faith after the death of her husband. The whole family joined Life BP Church. She was especially helpful in the Youth Fellowship and Bible camps. We thank God for our mothers.

Rev Mathews Abraham

On Sunday, May 3 was the induction of Rev Mathews Abraham as the resident pastor of Ebenezer BP Church. Rev Patrick Tan gave the charge. After taking the oath of office Rev Abraham served the Lord’s Supper.

Rev Abraham,  his beloved wife and three sons were introduced to the congregation.

Rev and Mrs Patrick Tan came to Melbourne to pastor Ebenezer BP Church in Jan 2006. The congregation was then worshipping at Mulgrave community center. The church was then managed by a protem committee. By the grace of God and the generous giving of God’s people, the Kilsyth property was purchased.  Membership was instituted and a Church Session was elected.

Our ministry in Melbourne is concluded. By God’s appointment we have returned home to Singapore. We wait for the Lord’s direction as to how He would use us.

Brethren,  pray for us.

“Bathsheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king’s mother; and she sat on his right hand.” (1 Kings 2:19)

“For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.  By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother’s bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.” (Psalm 71:5-6)

“For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 139:13-14)

“My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.” (Proverbs 1:8-9)

“The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him. What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink…” (Proverbs 31:1-4)

“She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” (Proverbs 31:26-28)

“For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.” (Matthew 15:4-6)

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.” (John 19:25-27)
