Dear Lifer,

MAILBOX CLUB BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE

We would like to introduce to you the Ministry of this Mailbox Club Bible Correspondence Course. In short, we call it MBC BCC. This Bible correspondence course started on a small scale some years ago. The objectives are:

i)     Evangelism

ii)    Disciple-making

MBC BCC has been strongly linked with the following church outreaches when many students, working adults (young and old) as well as housewives and people-in-the-street are encouraged to sign up for the Bible correspondence course (BCC) through :

i)     Door-to-Door Evangelism in Yishun

ii)    Street Evangelism

iii)   Filipina Sunday School

iv)   Student Care Centres

v)    Personal Evangelism

Through this Bible correspondence course, many students as well as working adults have benefited in getting to know our living God and Lord Jesus through reading God’s Word. Some have even proclaimed their faith in Him and converted to Christianity. Others have shown much interest in getting to know more of the Bible by reading and doing the Bible correspondence course (BCC). Currently, we have a total of 92 students doing BCC with us, out of which 22 are from our Student Care Centres. Here are some feedback and shared experiences of individuals who had gone through the BCC with us in recent years:

1. Oh Hui Xuan (Niece of Sister Chui Hwa)

In 2009, sister Chui Hwa helped her niece, Oh Hui Xuan, to sign up for the BCC. She was found faithfully and diligently doing this course until later in year 2012, 1 March, she was diagnosed with an incurable cancer known as Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) when she was ten years old. Though she suffered much, she fought her cancer bravely until she was promoted to glory on 27 February 2013 at the age of 11 years. According to her parents and a social worker, she never at all complained or questioned God during this period but willingly submitted her will unto the Lord. At her wake, her mum testified that she had found the Lord and was able to be safe in the arms of Jesus through the BCC. Praise and thank God!

2. Sister Chuay Ying’s 85-Year Old Aunt

In 2013, sister Chuay Ying’s 85-year old aunt who is a Christian had a bad fall. She was then admitted to Lions Home for the Elders for three months’ recuperation after being discharged from the hospital. During this period, Chuay Ying visited her aunt and had several opportunities to witness to other elderly folks from this home. She also distributed tracts. Subsequently, she encouraged her aunt to sign up for the BCC and personally coached her in doing the first few lessons. Through the study of the Holy Scriptures, and with the help of Chuay Ying’s coaching and encouragement, she is now able to continue the BCC on her own. She finds the lessons so helpful in knowing about her Saviour the Lord Jesus that she introduced them to her friend, an 85-year old permanent resident of the Home. Both are now faithfully doing the lessons. Although Chuay Ying’s aunt is old with osteosclerosis, she faithfully worships at a church which is near her house every Sunday.

In this case, we can see how God works in the hearts of men. Although she is 85 years old, Chuay Ying’s aunt has the love of God in sharing Christ with her friend, who is of the same age. Also, despite being physically infirmed with osteosclerosis, she still faithfully worships Him at a church located near her home, and conscientiously studies His Word by doing the BCC diligently. She never ever used old age and frailty as an excuse. Praise God for her steadfast love and faith for Him!

3. Student Joy Lee Rong (9 years old)

Joy Lee Rong was staying in Singapore and had moved to South Africa with her family some years ago (around 2001). She wrote back in her Christmas card: “Dear Aunty Chuay Ying, I am Joy Lee Rong in your mailbox club. Merry Christmas! Thank you for you making my family more close to God. Since I was five I really enjoyed the mailbox club letters (stories). Aunty Chuay Ying please send to me more mailbox club letters. Please pray for my father and mother to have a job.” Subsequently, her mother, Madam Kathryn Lee wrote back requesting for more lessons to be sent to her daughter, and also to include her two sons in the BCC. She mentioned: “Oh yes, by the way, I thought one way to occupy my three children meaningfully is through some correspondence since there is not much to stimulate their active minds. God’s Word is still the best. Amen….” We can see how much impact BCC had in the lives of this little girl and her family members!

4. A Filipina Domestic Helper

This domestic helper wrote a letter dated August 21, 2009 to express her gratitude to be able to participate in our BCC. She shared some of her bad experiences with her former employer who treated her badly. She was then sent back to Philippines. However, she did not lose hope in the Lord and subsequently God answered her prayers and provided her a job again in Singapore. She rejoiced to find her current employer treating her well. She expressed in her letter her desire to be closer to God through reading the Bible and doing the lessons in the BCC. Indeed God is so marvellous in working in the heart of this lady, encouraging and strengthening her faith and love for Him!

5. Phoebe and Titus Yap

These two children started doing BCC since their Kindergarten days. Before their father was posted to Australia as a pastor, he requested for BCC lessons be posted to him for his children to continue doing the course with us. Phoebe and Titus still continue faithfully with the lessons despite the fact that the family has to move from one state to another (from Brisbane, shifting to Adelaide). Their father wrote back to inform us of his change of address and to request for prayer support for Phoebe and Titus to adjust to their new environment, and also to be able to find good Christian friends in their new schools and place of worship in Adelaide.

Their perseverance and faithfulness in continuing with BCC have indeed touched and encouraged us to learn from them – their passion and love for studying God’s Word regardless of which country or location they are in now. Moving away from Singapore never became an excuse to stop doing the BCC.

Recently, God spoke to our hearts to open this ministry to more Lifers in our congregation to reach out to their loved ones, friends, colleagues and classmates with the Gospel. This will enable us to cast our net wider as the Lord has commanded us to carry out the Great Commission until He comes again. (Matthew 28:19-20). Therefore, we strongly encourage Lifers to help their unsaved loved ones and friends to sign up for this BCC as a way of evangelising them and eventually bringing them to attend the Sunday School, fellowship groups and worship services of Life Church. Most importantly, our goal is that they may be saved and brought into His Kingdom.

Also, we must expect great things from the Almighty God and pray earnestly that He will bless us richly with a good harvest of souls and provide us with more workers (e.g. administrators & teachers to mark the lessons) to co-labour in His vineyard. May the Lord speak to each and every Lifer that he or she (young and old) will not be left out of participating in His harvest.

God bless.
