Lifers @ FEK

“The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalm 19:8

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” Galatians 2:16

It is that time of the year again when I look forward to some Lifers entrusting their children with our Church kindergarten.  Far Eastern Kindergarten’s ministry is possible because of the belief, prayer and generosity of leaders and members in this Church.

“Why send your child to FEK?” I decided to pose this question to some of the Lifers with children at FEK and I am glad that these parents share our vision - that the Word of God must supersede everything else in early childhood education.  These testimonials have not been edited so as to retain the authenticity.

Shaosheng & Dawn
Parents of Su-Anne, Ean & Wei- An

We started sourcing for a Christian kindergarten near our home when our eldest daughter, Su-Anne, turned 2. But to our surprise, most of the nearby kindergartens were full when we started our search in July 2010. So, we thought to ourselves, “why not try the kindergarten right here in our own church - FEK!” And thank God, there was still a vacancy in FEK for Su-Anne.

Remembering the first year Su-Anne started, she cried daily for almost 6 months. How time flies and she has graduated from FEK last year. Over the past 4 years in FEK, we have seen her grown from a timid little girl to a confident and sociable girl. She had learned many Christian values through the Character Programme which taught her how to interact with her teachers and friends, looking out and helping each other out. Every quarter, the teachers will inculcate a particular Christian character trait (e.g. obedience, patience, thankfulness, etc.) through the Character Programme.

Ean, our second child, is K1 this year in FEK. We can’t help but notice a complete change in him this year. From a boy who used to find excuses for not going to school in Pre-nursery to a boy who looks forward to going to school every morning. He enjoys the songs, Bible stories, outdoor play, gym lessons and especially the “show and tell” sessions!

Though Su-Anne and Ean come to church almost every day of the week, they still look forward to coming to church, be it for school or Sunday school. They feel at home in their all so familiar classrooms with the little tables and chairs, the colourful, personally decorated boards and windows and the familiar church helpers and Mrs Ang.

We are thankful to be part of the Kindergarten Ministry in Life Church. May God continue to bless this Christ-centered Kindergarten!

Grace Chng
Mother of Ryan Wong

With a holistic and integrated curriculum at FEK, Ryan has been exposed to various platforms of learning.  From character education to gym to Bible story time, he has learnt to be more independent.  The Chinese programme has helped him established a strong foundation in the language.  Ryan loves his teachers and friends at FEK who takes great care of him.

Addy & Valerie Tan
Parents of Alyssa

We were introduced to FEK by our fellow church friend whose children are in FEK. We promptly followed up with a school visit and were impressed by the conducive and cozy environment. The students have their lessons in proper classrooms and not just segregation by panel dividers. The classrooms are well equipped with audio visual equipment which greatly enhanced the learning experience. There is a playground and plenty of open space just outside the classrooms where the children are able to have outdoor activities such as gymnastic lessons, water play and ball games.

FEK provides a holistic educational programme which emphasises on character building, academic proficiency as well as spiritual growth. This is achieved through multiple creative approaches such as role play, art work and educational games. Above all, the character building aspect is what FEK sets itself apart from other preschools.  A character trait such as punctuality, responsibility, obedience, is being emphasised for each term. Children who display these virtues are being recognised by awards.  This will not be possible without the dedication of the teachers who lovingly inculcate the right values into the children and by being good role models. Most importantly, the Word of God forms the foundation of shepherding the child’s heart. “Train up the child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

FEK also introduces the children to different cultures, enhancing their understanding of cultural differences and tolerance through fun events such as UN (United Nation) Day and the various festive celebration events. The annual year- end concert provides a good platform to teach the children perseverance and discipline in addition to stage confidence, as well as for the parents to play an active role in the education process of their children. It also serves as an evangelistic channel.

FEK has a good balance of English and Chinese curriculum.  We especially like the Chinese Cultural Month where the children experience all things Chinese for one whole month. Various activities such as tang yuan and dumpling making, Chinese cultural fair where the children get to make Chinese crafts/masks, Chinese painting, play Chinese games, Tang Poetry recitation, steamboat “reunion meal” are planned for the enjoyment of the Chinese culture.

We also like the personal touch provided by FEK where the principal Mrs Ang, the teachers as well as the non-teaching staff make it a point to know every child by name. The teachers’ love and patience has helped our daughter Alyssa embrace learning with zeal and to help her to develop into an independent, mature and confident girl who absolutely adores FEK and looks forward to going to school.

Kar Liang and Xiu Fen
Parents of Kai En & Yi Shyen

My two young children, one 2+ boy and the other 4+ girl look forward to going to school, Far Eastern Kindergarten daily.  I am glad and thankful to God for their development thus far.  I appreciate the teachers’ efforts to groom and nurture their students not only in academics but more importantly in grace – Character development.  Not easy when you have to run a pretty rigorous curriculum to prepare children for primary school readiness.  As a parent, I enjoy participating in school activities where parents and grandparents contribute and join in the fun and learning together with their young ones.  An important involvement and time to treasure in their young lives!

Peter & Cheryl Koy
Parents of Kristen

It was an easy decision for me to send my daughter, Kristen, to FEK because of its curriculum which is Bible-based and which places strong emphasis on building a spiritually upright character. Further, FEK has a very committed and caring team of teachers and staff headed by a dedicated principal, Mrs Ang, who knows each and every student’s name by heart. FEK also plans many exciting and stimulating activities for its students including outdoor gym, water play and Chinese Speech and Drama. It is no wonder that Kristen thoroughly enjoys her time spent at school every day!

Joy Tang
Mother of Reuben

Reuben is our first child and having to choose a school for Reuben was a new experience for us as young parents.  We hoped Reuben would grow in a Christian schooling environment with lots of love and care and we found this environment right at our Church’s kindergarten.

We are also happy that at FEK, Reuben will be immersed in a strong fundamental education surrounded by teachings of Christian character, Christian songs and Bible stories and that is extremely important to us as we want our child to grow up with exposure to and understanding of God’s word.

Sending Reuben to FEK is therefore an obvious choice as FEK satisfies all our criteria and more.  Reuben has been attending FEK for over a month now and he looks forward to school daily and enjoys it.

Wang Chin Kiong
Father of Joanne

FEK emphasises on character moulding, teaching fundamental English and Chinese languages and Mathematics, and carrying out other fun-filled activities to encourage children to learn and grow. FEK also engages the parents so that the latter can play a part in inculcating such teachings to their children at home. All these allow the children not only to strong foundation in basic language skills, but also to learn virtues and values which are important for their growing up as godly, responsible adults. My daughter Joanne has truly enjoyed attending lessons at FEK. I believe the moral and academic teaching in FEK will have a lasting impact on her.

Desmond & Li Chin
Parents of Justus

We are thankful that our first born is enrolled in Far Eastern Kindergarten where God’s word and Christian values are taught together with the regular curriculum. Having been in FEK for a year, Justus has matured tremendously in learning to interact with his peers and respecting the authorities over him in school.  The teachers employ creative teaching methods in delivering their lessons.  Last year they had a school term of project on Lego which was Justus’ favourite toy then! They learnt counting, shapes, vocabulary through playing Lego blocks and they even had a chance to model architectural structures in Singapore using the blocks in an outdoor learning trip.  The kids also had a chance in making their own Lego sandwiches for breakfast! Thank you FEK for making learning so fun!

Please pray for FEK to continue to make God’s word the foundation of education.
