Soon Lee Migrant Workers’ Outreach

We thank God for seeing us through the 10 weeks of English classes, and thank you for your prayer support towards this ministry. On the 3rd of November 2013, a Graduation cum Gospel meeting was conducted as a wrap up for this run of the classes. We thank God for more than 300 migrant workers who attended the Graduation-Gospel meeting held at Pasir Panjang Christ Church (PPCC).

The total attendance of the graduation was about 418:

•   308 migrant workers (including 145 Telugu workers)

•   110 teachers & helpers (PPCC members / Life BPC members / Telugu members).

We praise God for the good responses from the migrant workers; truly the Lord had brought them into His Church to hear the Gospel. About 105 students received their certificates and vouchers for completing the 10 weeks of lessons. The teachers gave a praise item, “Because He Lives” to share the story of our resurrected Saviour.

The students were grouped into five groups according to their nationality and the gospel message was delivered in Bangladeshi, Telugu, Tamil, Mandarin and others (Thai, Filipino, Myanmar, etc.) respectively. I shared the Gospel in Mandarin with the Chinese migrant workers; there were about 40 of them. I praise God for the working of the Holy Spirit in their hearts. I invited those who wished to accept Jesus as their personal Saviour to pray the sinner’s prayer with me at the end of my message. After the prayer, five people stood up to indicate that they have prayed the sinner’s prayer. We were overjoyed to know that these five people believed and accepted the Lord Jesus and they are now the children of God. The Bible says: “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” (Luke 15:10)

I am very encouraged by the group of Lifers who went regularly and faithfully every Sunday evening to serve in this outreach. They were willing to give their time to reach out to the migrant workers by befriending them, teaching them English and sharing Christ’s love with them. During this time, some migrant workers came to know and accept Christ, prayed the sinner’s prayer in faith and were saved by God’s grace. Many were touched and moved by our brethren’s love and commitment. They wanted to know why and what we were doing in this work. We believe every gospel seed that was sown in the hearts of these workers will not be in vain but will accomplish its purpose according to God’s will.

As we ministered to these workers, the Lord has also blessed us in many ways. All of us have learnt many spiritual lessons and our faith was strengthened and revived in the Lord. All glory to our Almighty God!

Chinese Evening Service

We will start a Chinese Evening Bible Study Fellowship from 10 November 2013, on every Sunday evening from 7.00pm to 8.00pm at Beulah House (MPH). The format and flow of the Chinese Evening Bible Study Fellowship will be that of a normal worship service. The format will be more of a typical Chinese Church where China Cana Christian songs are used and free-will offerings are collected via a box placed near the entrance. The purpose of this Bible Study Fellowship is to provide a place for the Chinese Migrant Christians to worship God and fellowship with the saints. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to reach out to the thousands of non-believing Chinese migrant workers in our country. The Chinese Evening Bible Study Fellowship is not just for the Chinese migrants; we also welcome any believers or Lifers to worship and fellowship with us. We will have the Lord’s Supper on every first week of the month.

We will have dinner after the service. This will be a good opportunity for everyone to sit down and fellowship. We plan to have a short Bible Study class from 8.30 pm to 9.00 pm after dinner. The Bible class aims to build up Christian believers in their fundamental beliefs of the faith and to help the non-believers to know more about our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Please continue to pray with us for this ministry to the Chinese migrant workers. It is not by our own wisdom and strength but by the Holy Spirit that we are able to accomplish anything. “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5) – Rev Daniel Khoo
