Our Mission

Our Lord Jesus Christ gave His disciples the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 – "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach [i.e. make disciples of] all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."

Our mission as a church is to glorify God by obeying this commission. Hence we must continually go forth and make disciples of Christ and equip them for service with the Word of God. Peter Marshall said, "The church that does not evangelise will fossilize."

The key to success in obeying this commission is faithful service to Christ by every church member. 2 Timothy 2:2 – "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." E M. Bounds said, "Men are looking for better methods. God is looking for better men."

Making disciples involves work in three areas – Salvation, Sanctification and Service. All of us should be involved in these three areas, either in being discipled or in making disciples.

1. Salvation

This refers to all our efforts to bring people to Christ through the Gospel. Philippians 2:15-16 – "That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain."

Efforts must be made to reach out to those who are unsaved in the following categories:

• Our loved ones (e.g. parents, siblings and children)

• Our acquaintances (e.g. friends and work colleagues)

• Children in our community (e.g. through our annual Vacation Bible School, Far Eastern Kindergarten, Student Care Centres and the Life Children’s Club)

• People in public places and housing estates (e.g. Street evangelism and Door-to-door evangelism)

• People from other countries (e.g. foreign workers and students)

• People in other countries (e.g. mission work in Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar)

We should maximise the use of all resources that are available to disseminate the Gospel:

• Gospel tracts and booklets

• Bible correspondence courses (e.g. The Inquirer’s Bible Course)

• Evangelistic books, recordings and DVDs (e.g. the Library)

• Gospel Sunday Services (on 30 June and 29 September 2013)

2. Sanctification

This refers to all our efforts to help members to grow into the fullness of Christ through the ministry of the Word and the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:13-16 – "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love."

Efforts must be made to promote spiritual growth by:

• Keeping daily personal devotions

• Memorising and meditating on God’s Word

• Maintaining regular family devotions

• Following up new believers and preparing them for baptism or reaffirmation of faith

• Preaching God’s Word (e.g. Sunday worship services, annual church camps)

• Teaching God’s Word (e.g. Sunday School classes, Emmanuel Reformed Bible Lectures)

• Discipleship (e.g. in our Fellowship groups and Neighbourhood Bible Communities)

3. Service

This refers to all our efforts to enable members to serve one another and be involved in building up the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:12 – "For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." 2 Corinthians 9:8 – "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."

Efforts must be made by every member to discover, develop and use his/her spiritual gift(s) and talents to minister to others. Let us ensure that every ministry of the Church will never lack in service or participation by members:

• Prayer meetings (which are the ‘powerhouse’ of the Church)

• Music ministry and Church Choir (pianists, organists, singing and conducting)

• Children’s ministry (song-leading, story-telling, art and craft)

• Visitation of the sick and infirmed on Tuesday afternoons

• Mercy ministry to provide financial assistance to needy members

• Car parking and logistics for church events

• Food and beverage for fellowship meetings and camps

• Public address system

• Video recording

• Graphic artwork, writing and editing for church publications

• Church governance (pastors, elders and deacons in the Session)

Our Vision

Our ultimate vision is to become what God wants us to be: A united church family committed to the glory of God.

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." (Acts 2:42-47)

It is my hope that in obedience to the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ, we will all covenant with God together to build a united church family that is committed to making disciples through Salvation, Sanctification and Service, to the glory of God.

May the Lord Jesus Christ help us to be faithful in fulfilling this church mission and vision, trusting Him to give the increase in His own time.
– Pastor
