VBS 2017 TESTIMONIES

The Lord has done great things for our children. The preparations for Life B-P Church Vacation Bible School (VBS) 2017 started immediately after VBS 2016. Thank God for Pastor Quek and Deacon Benedict for their guidance throughout the planning, preparation, and the proper conduct of VBS 2017. With that we were able to mobilize 128 Lifers to serve alongside with each other with sincere and godly hearts. There were 253 children who attended the VBS 2017 and they all benefitted from the great service of our co-workers. Thank God for His great blessings for VBS 2017.

– Hock Seng

“But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:16.

Enoch Cheong:

Overall, my experience in VBS was well worth. I got to meet new people and have fun and at the same time, serving God. Knowing that I am helping in VBS made me very happy as everyday I come home from VBS, I would always look forward for the next day of VBS.

Bernard R. Bagtha:

I’m happy to be of service to our Lord Almighty this VBS, my first ever. Despite my small role as ushering cars, parents and children, and controlling traffic, I’ve benefitted much from the fellowship among God’s people, and knowing that my role has impacted (indirectly) the sowing of the gospel seed among the children, and parents alike.

Our hands must always be ready to be on the plough, and be a fit vessel for God to use, ever ready to echo the words of the prophet Isaiah: “Lord, here I am, send me.” To God be the glory.

Ignatius Yeo Chee Eng:

I thank God for the opportunity to serve in the VBS again this year, in bringing the Gospel to the little children. This year I had the opportunity to participate in the planning process, as an EXCO member, serving in the area of Logistics. Thank God for all those who stepped up to serve as helpers in Traffic, Games, Security and general logistical support.

We were blessed with a mix of seniors who have the history/experience, very young 12 to 15 yrs old brimming with energy/enthusiasm and steady hands in some youth/young adults in the team. There were some anxious moments as the team tried to support the needs of the various departments but I thank God for his grace, in enabling our team to overcome them, allowing the program to proceed smoothly. Thank God for all who made the extra effort to help in the pre-VBS set up, cleaning up when each day is over and post-VBS restoration. Although they were tiring, especially for the seniors, I was encouraged by Neh 8:10b “..... for the joy of the Lord is your strength”.

I was also reminded by Paul that our labor is not in vain in the Lord, in 1 Cor 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord”. May we all seize opportunities such as this, to abound in the work of the Lord! All praise and Glory to God!

Thank God for the opportunity and the ability (good health) to serve. 2 Cor 5:14 “For the love of Christ constrained us...” Thank God for his abundant grace and mercies in providing a cooperative/supportive group of brethren to work with, to accomplish His work.

Thank God also for providing a selfless leader who leads by example and encouragement of the team throughout the project. All glory to God.

Dn Terence Tan:

This year I was privileged to serve as a traffic warden. My experience over these few days was one which allowed me to see many men, women, teens and children coming together with one mind, one spirit to serve our Lord Jesus. We prayed for God’s protection and blessings on the day of VBS preparation. And as we worked hand in hand, it was a joy to see that there was no show of dominance, impatience, jealousy, etc. Though we all are surely sinners saved by grace and still struggling with it, we put aside our sinful selfish ways and put on Christ as we sought to facilitate the effective teaching of the gospel message to the 240+ children that came.

As a traffic warden I had the pleasure to serve alongside brothers BK and Aaron, our regular Sunday traffic wardens, and also with Bernard, Dave, Tiong Chin, and Dn David Tan. I thank God for brothers BK and Aaron who came early at 8am to marshal drop off traffic before heading off to work. Their experience certainly helped guide us. The others applied for leave for the duration of the VBS. Although we were not directly involved in teaching Bible stories nor sharing the gospel, we knew we were part of an integral team to ensure smooth and safe operations. This involves making sure the children were dropped off smoothly, crossed the roads safely to continue on to their classes where the Bible story tellers and teachers awaited them.

We also observed a group of ladies working hard to ensure that not only the children but also all staff of VBS get fed with food and refreshments everyday. We thank God for their loving hands and culinary expertise.

I would like to give thanks to God for safety on all 4 days (1 day of preparations and 3 days of actual VBS). I would also like to thank God for his faithful servants from all walks of life coming together to serve the Lord selflessly and in humility. It was truly a joy to co-labour with fellow Lifers for the glory of Christ. All praise and glory be unto our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:3-7 - “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”

Kwok Ying Yao:

It was a pleasure serving the Lord together, I am sure we have been blessed by the Lord in different ways. Taking a peek into the lessons, it was a joy to see the children delighting in God’s Word through the dinosaur stories.

Thank God for Ignatius who stepped in while I was away, to cover the task of planning out the logistic requirements, and it was very encouraging to see other brothers (and sisters) helping out in areas outside of their designated duties. The Log team couldn’t have done it all by ourselves. Working, in fact laboring, together was also a real joy and a different kind of fellowship for the brethren, not to mention the coffee fellowship we had after the big cleanup on the last day. Thank God once again for a well conducted VBS and the privilege and joy in serving Him.

Benjamin Heng:

On 12 April I informed bro Hock Seng of my desire to serve in VBS in any capacity after the Sunday 9 April announcement that there was a dire shortage of helpers & subsequently he assigned me to be a primary school teacher. So I looked forward to evangelistic Bible-story lessons to reach out to the kids.

However during teachers briefing before VBS, I realized that story telling was centralized & done by one story teller, so I requested for a set of story/gospel slides from Sis Song Ching to help the kids recall the lessons. This came in useful as there was an opportunity to share the gospel with the kids one-to-one, using the gospel slides and other aids and two children accepted the Lord. Thank God for sustenance through VBS. The art and craft time gave the teachers a good opportunity to connect with the kids and to bring the gospel to them. All glory and praise be to the Lord.

Charles Cham Jun Kai:

I thank God that I was able to serve in VBS 2017 as games leader this year as I have learned many vital experiences myself while serving together on the main committee and the games team. I like to thank God that the children who attended VBS not only were able to have fun safely in games, but also to understand more how great God’s love can be. Lastly, I will like to take the opportunity to thank the entire games team as well as the rest in ensuring the safety of the children and the smooth transitions and making the execution possible.

Acts 16:31 says “And they said, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” I pray that the children who have not yet known Christ truly will one day believe and commit to him.

Sharon Seow:

Thank the Lord for the privilege to serve at Truerassic Park VBS 2017. It was a joy the work with the Life Church family of both familiar and new faces. VBS was a time of learning with the kids how God is real and good. He gave us a wonderful program of songs, lesson, snacks, craft and games. May this evangelistic outreach continue to be a blessing to all.

Ashley & Abigail Yeap:

It was our first time leading an entire department (craft/decor) this year. Although we faced challenges and difficulties, we are thankful for the valuable lessons that we have learnt as we reflected on the past few months of planning and preparation prior to the actual event.

One difficulty we faced was obtaining the materials required. We received incomplete shipments, found products removed from websites and repeatedly faced failed shipment attempts. Nonetheless, we are very grateful that in the end, the Lord ensured that we managed to obtain a sufficient quantity of the materials required.

We also want to thank our fellow teammates and their little helpers for prepping the craft materials and decor props. It was amazing to see how even the little ones, despite their age, helped willingly during the preparation stage. We were also blessed with the extra help from other departments that lent us a hand during the final craft preparations, decor setup and teardown.

We hope that through the crafts, the children would be reminded of the stories that they learnt about God and Bible truths such as how God created the world in an orderly fashion; that dinosaurs were mentioned in the Bible; why they eventually died and most importantly, the gospel.

Hannah Tan:

I thank God for giving me the opportunity to serve Him in VBS 2017. Having attended VBS as a child, it was really wonderful and very humbling experience to be back as a helper. Personally, listening to Bible stories and singing alongside the children (songs like Jesus Loves Me) were valuable reminders of the times when I first began my journey of faith and VBS just showed me in this journey, I can start serving God in small ways, no matter how small.

Through VBS, I had the chance to fellowship with other Lifers and forge bonds with the children. I think what struck me was Day 2 class time, when Aunty Christina shared the gospel with the children, and even the more lively children quietened down to listen. Subsequently, when she reiterated how God loves us and asked two SCC children personally if they wanted to receive Christ, they nodded and in that moment, I really saw a kind of humble, teachable spirit and childlike faith. It reminded me of 1 Cor 3:6 “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” I am thankful to God for bringing me to this VBS to serve Him and help sow the gospel seeds in the hearts of the children.

Choy Wai:

Thank God for another VBS, for the opportunity to share the gospel with children through songs, messages, games and class activities. I am grateful to be part of this year's VBS team. Let us continue to pray for the children and their families who came and learned of'God's love and his salvation plan.
