The 2017 Church Camp was held from June 12 to 15 at Holiday Inn Resort Batam on the theme of “Behold I Come Quickly” delivered by Rev Ho Chee Lai. Praise God for moving the hearts of 433 campers to be at the church camp receiving God’s word, fellowshipping, encouraging and serving one another in various roles from Group IC, Message Chairman, Musicians, and the list goes on. We are well challenged to live and deliver our best for our commander Jesus. Rev Ho was very passionate, ensured we receive the best, and provided a booklet of his sermon notes too, which we were more than happy to print for our campers on top of our regular camper booklet, which comprised of the following messages with very meaningful closing hymns for our reflection:

Message 1: The Revelation of God's Promise - 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus (HGG 522).

Message 2: The Recorded Timeline of Daniel - Rejoice in the Lord (RH 20)

Message 3: The Reconciliation of the Signs - His Eye is on the Sparrow (RH 164)

Message 4: The Rise of the Antichrist - Faith is the Victory (HGG 596)

Message 5: The Rapture of the Saints - Will Jesus Find Us Watching? (RH 593)

Message 6: The Return of Christ - My Hope is in Thee (HGG 624)

Message 7: The Renewal of the Heaven and Earth - Until Then (RH 598)

I am so grateful to God for providing such a dedicated team to run this annual camp. It is like a full time job, day in day out round the clock we were talking and preparing the admin and logistics matters. It is our goal and objective to prepare this annual camp to ensure our campers walk away, not just mentally, physically and socially refreshed, revived, and rejuvenated, but spiritually too! Much appreciation too to the session leaders who gave us the support. Thank God for Elder Sherman who was our presiding elder, and continuously exhorted and encouraged us from the Bible. My key take away from him was 1 Thess 5:24 – “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”

Praise God for all the wonderful things he has done, providing, preserving, and preparing our hearts to receive the word. God’s name be praised.

Dn David Tan

I thank the Lord for a blessed time of learning God’s Word, the fellowship of the brethren and just being away from the daily routine. On the preaching of the camp theme, ‘Behold I come quickly’; thank God for our speaker Rev Ho Chee Lai for making a difficult but important topic palatable and clear as far as our persuasion is concerned. He answered and made clear many questions during the messages and took time to answer even more off stage.

The messages reinforced my understanding over the years of my life. Despite the busy-ness of our lives that Jesus is coming again and we must play our role in educating and edifying the church to not be enticed by the evil one to become spiritually immobile and ineffective for the Lord.

The other crucial take home was the BDM (Biblical Discipleship Movement) which stressed that it is not a new movement but that which was instructed by our Lord Jesus to obey and fulfil on earth. It is to me, a `wake up’ call to be more active in my reaching out to the lost wherever and whenever I can. However, what hits straight to my heart is that this important aspect is indeed directly proportional to our spiritual growth and walk in the Lord. A believer who is filled with the Spirit and joy of the Lord will find gospel sowing, follow up and discipleship a joy rather than a chore.

In the three full days that I was there, I marvelled at the well-run camp by the brethren both young and old. It is so good to see the young especialy taking on more responsibilities and serving diligently. I thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and laughter at meals, the comfort of the rooms and facilities which the hotel had to offer.

I am also grateful to God that my octogenarian mother Peggy, wife Tok Ling and son Joash could join in the camp and being in good health throughout the camp too.

‘It will be worth it all when we see Jesus,

Life’s trials will seem so small when we see Christ;

One glimpse of His dear face all sorrow will erase,

So bravely run the race till we see Christ.’

All praise and glory to our Lord!

Mealtime conversations during the camp were interesting and included discussions of the various views of the timing of the Rapture, Christ’s Second Coming and the Millennium. There were some humorous moments when we discussed the raptured saints living during the Millennium. Since their bodies will be glorified, will they have to eat? The “eat to live“ group answered NO! The  “live to eat“ group said YES!

Were all these views important and how should it impact my life today? 1Thess 5:1-6 warns that the day of the Lord cometh as a thief in the night so we should not sleep but be watchful and prepare. What can I do on earth to prepare?

Pastor Ho reminded us that our lives are like a candle burning and asked how much of your candle is there left to burn? He also warned that when the wind blows, the light of the candle will blow off. He exhorted us to live out the purpose of God for our remaining life on earth.

I am elderly (a senior citizen by Singapore government standards) so my candle is getting shorter and shorter. Although I don't know what day Christ will return, I do know that Every day I live is One day nearer to Christ’s Return.

May the Lord grant me grace and give me strength to live out daily the instructions given in Romans 13:11-14 - “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

Jeffrey Heah

Since re-entering the House of God in October 2012, I have been blessed to be able to participate in a total of four church camps thus far. My first was at Bintan in 2013, where Rev Paul Choo delivered his message entitled “Armoured for Victory”.

I find its meaning and purpose notching up with each passing camp. Like everyone else, I discover new joy and peace each time. Nothing be more joyous than to be among like-minded Lifers coming together for a common cause: To enrich our spiritual beings, to deepen our fellowship and to strengthen our family - including multi-generational - bond.

Being a new Christian, I must unashamedly admit that I could not always digest every message in totality. But because of the manner the messages are structured, understanding is actually painless and serves us well! Praise the Lord, takeaways are aplenty.

For me, “Behold, I Come Quickly” is essentially about eternal life beyond earthly life and the second coming of Christ. The one thing that stuck by me was a challenge posed by Rev Ho: “If you will be serving God in heaven, shouldn’t you begin serving God today?” Indeed, eternal life begins the very moment we are saved. Instead of being obsessed with everything tangible and temporary on earth, the eyes of our hearts ought to be fixated on eternal glory.

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:18

“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost….. World without end.” Amen! Amen!

Bro Liew Chin Wei – Chinese Service

Thank God for granting us the opportunity to organize this church camp, giving us a healthy turnout and providing us a safe place to learn His word. His message delivered through Rev Daniel Khoo had touched our hearts, reminded us how we should live our lives to prepare for the Lord's return. We thanked our Lord for this reminder and may He grant us strength to live a life that He finds favour with.

It had been an enriching experience for me to help in this church camp. I was able to see the labours of love from my fellow brethren, how they reacted calmly and not fretting under testing situations. I thanked God for this opportunity to witness these and learn from them.

Samuel Sim - LTF

The camp has let me learn many things about Revelations such as the end times and the rapture. As this was my first time in the adult service in church camp I was interested to see how it was like there. The speaker, Rev. Ho Chee Lai explained about Revelations and talked about the various interpretations of the prophecies in the end times and how in Revelations the prophecies should not be taken literally as it is seen from the writer's view. Church camp is an enjoyable time to worship God and fellowship and if you can come for church camp, I would encourage you to come to worship God and learn about Him.

Lee Wei Xin - LTF

Life BP Church camp 2017 was my first ever church camp. I was eagerly anticipating so I can get to grow closer to God as well as other lifers which I have not met. Alas there was a problem at the start, no room mates, no money, no hope. I prayed really hard and I thank God for his mercy and everlasting love. I roomed with a nice lady, and I got subsidy from a fellow church member, and now am starting to build up hope. The Message was great, it left a very powerful impact of spreading gospel quickly to those outside God's kingdom. Overall great fellowships, great food, great spiritual lessons and most importantly, great growing in the lord. All glory be unto God!

Ting Kai-En—6 years old

I learnt about Moses and the Red Sea. God is powerful.

Sarah See Toh Shu Hui- 7 years old

I learnt from this camp that God is almighty and with Him nothing is impossible.

Glenda Tan—8 years old

I learnt from this camp that God is almighty, He can do anything and to have faith in God.

Ariel Cheong—9 years old

I have learnt that we all can always believe in God. In the first lesson I learnt that God is very super power. He struck the hearts of the Israelite enemies so that they could blow the trumpets to destroy the walls. In the second lesson, I learnt that we can pray and he will hear our prayers. In the third and final lesson, I made train tracks and I heard the stories of Gideon. While it is time to say goodbye, we can always pray to Him no matter what.

Isaac Yoong—10 years old

I have learnt that God can deliver us from sin, new songs and new friends. You can trust God with all your heart, soul and mind. When I am afraid, I will pray to God.

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” –Psalm 91:2

Thaddaeus—9 years old

I learnt to pray to God in difficulties and have faith whatsoever happens. God will protect us.

Su-Anne—9 years old

I learnt about faith, new songs and when I am afraid I will pray

John Woon—10 years old

During the past few lessons, I learnt about how Joshua put his faith in God and how I can adapt it to my life.

Gabriel Tan—10 years old

I learnt about faith and how it helped people long ago during Bible times. I also learnt about how it is used in our daily lives. I think after this lesson, I got to know more about the trials in life and how we can overcome them by faith.

Isaac Sim—10 years old

I learnt about stories that I have never heard before e.g. Gideon and the Midianites on Wednesday night, King Nebuchadnezzar on Wednesday morning and much more (God is powerful).

Jariel Kwok—10 years old

I learnt that FAITH is the Victory! In class, I learnt how some people had difficult decisions and how they overcome it like: David, Joshua and Gideon. I learnt how it benefits us in our lives.

Ruth Lim—10 years old

I have learnt about Faith, Joshua, King David and Gideon and more about the Bible.

David Chan—11 years old

I learnt about how to have faith in the Lord. Many Bible story characters showed me how faith was so powerful that it exaggerated to other non-believers. With faith, we can do anything with the help of Lord.

James Chan—11 years old

My reflections:

I want to be closer to God

I want to be faithful to God

I have learnt to have trust in God

No matter how small we are, we still have God beside us

Daniel—10 years old:

I learnt about the war of Gideon, David vs Goliath and that you have to praise the Lord. I am so happy.

Megan Wong—11 years old

I learnt about the stories about Gideon facing the biggest army during lessons and did art and craft. I really love the church camp! And most importantly, we must trust in God, love Him and pray to Him, even when we are at home or in school.

Abigail—12 years old

In a short trip of 4 days, I have learnt a lot from the children’s programme. We learnt about those who showed faith to God in times of need. For example, Gideon trusted God in the war and stayed faithful to God’s plan which may be quite weird in his sight. I hope I can also learn to have faith in God’s plan and trust Him.

Matthew Chiang—12 years old

I have learnt that we must be faithful towards God, trusting in God and go according to what He has planned for us. We must remain loyal to Him throughout our life, following His words he said in the Bible. I’ve learnt that faith could actually be used in real life, not to waver and give way to temptation. We must also walk closely with God and pray to Him every day.

Matthew Yoong—12 years old

During the church camp, we had learnt a lot of stories. I had lots of fun learning and singing before the messages. I learnt many new songs every message. On the first message session, we learnt about Joshua. Joshua had a lot of problems so he abided in God when he was afraid. The second message was about David and the third message we learnt about Hezekiah and the fourth message was about three friends which were put into fire. There was also a lot of art and craft.

Sharon Quek—12 years old

The theme for this year’s camp was FAITH. On the 1st day, we learnt about Joshua and the walls of Jericho where he trusted God and put his faith in Him that he could defeat Jericho. 2nd day: David and Hezekiah. 3rd day: Daniel’s 3 friends and Gideon.
