Life B-P Church Worship I & II, 6th November  2016

Acts 23:1-32

(Rev Colin Wong)

        I.            Introduction

A.      Do you believe God is working behind the scenes of history?  (Ezra 1:1-4; Esther 4:14)

B.      Many Christians often overlook the providence of God.

C.      God is active in his providence.

II.            The Conspiracy to Kill Paul

A.      The Jewish Conspiracy (Acts 23:12-15).

B.      Can God use evil as instruments to accomplish his plan?
(Amos 3:6; Proverbs 16:4, 9).

C.      Biblical examples: The death of Christ (Acts 4:27, 28; 2:23; 3:18) and the life of Joseph (Genesis 37:18-36; 50:20).

D.      The Christian's favorite verse (Romans 8:28; Psalm 119:71).

III.            The Discovery of the Conspiracy

A.      God's providential deliverance demonstrated

(Acts 23:16, 17).

2.       Dr Josif Ton, the leader of the Christian movement in Romania.

3.       Dr Abraham, a well-known cancer specialist.

B.      God always answers prayers (Jeremiah 33:3).

IV.        Conclusion

Are you convinced now that all things which happen in the world or to you are under the sovereign control of God? If not, you need a 50:20 perspective on life.  Amen.

Discussion Questions

1.         Is there a difference between God’s permitting evil and his ordaining it. If so, what?

2.       Why is the doctrine of God’s sovereignty over evil more comforting than the view that he can’t control evil since it stems from man’s free will?

3.       How can God actively direct all things through his providence and yet hold people accountable? (Romans 9:9-24)

4.       How can we know whether God expects us to wait passively on him or to take action ourselves (Exodus 14:10-31).
