Daniel 7:1-28

Study of the Book of Daniel:

The Vision of the Four Beasts

Life B-P Church Worship I & II, 2nd April 2017

Text: Daniel 7:1-28

·         The last six chapters of Daniel record four visions (received in 553-536 BC) which provide a comprehensive sweep of history and future events.

·         Through them the Jews would understand that God was still with them, and that He would work out His grand purpose and plan for them and for the whole world.

·         Through them they would also know that the end of their captivity would not be the end of their sorrows: Things will get worse before they can get better.

·         Three important truths are revealed through the first vision:

1. God’s plan is unfolding in history. (vv.2-7a)

  • The 4 beasts represent 4 empires and they correspond to the 4 parts of the great image of Nebuchadnezzar’s vision (cf. 2:31-43).
  • They represent the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Greek and Roman empires.
  • Just as God knew these empires long before they existed, God knows all about the present superpowers of the world and is in control of them.

2. God’s people will face persecution in the future. (vv.7b-8,24-25)

  • The 10 horns represent a group of states or nations that will make up a revived Roman Empire.
  • The little horn represents the Antichrist who will persecute all believers in the End times (cf. Revelation 13:4-7).
  • If it is God’s will for us to glorify Him by going through persecution, let us do so willingly, applying the lessons we have learned from the Book of Daniel.

3. God’s kingdom will prevail in the end. (vv.9-11,13-14)

  • The Antichrist and his kingdom will be completely destroyed.
  • The kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, will have no end (cf. the Stone in 2:34,35).

Questions for Personal Reflection:

1.       Which kingdom should you belong to and invest your life in?

2.       What can you do now to warn others that the End is near?

3.       Should you be worried about all the changes taking place in the world today?
