Daniel 11:36-12:13

Study of the Book of Daniel:

Blessedness in the Time of the End

Life B-P Church Worship I & II, 25th June 2017

Text: Daniel 11:36-12:13

·         The king mentioned in v.36 is no longer Antiochus IV Epiphanes, but someone who will persecute the Jews in the last days (7:8; 9:26).

·         How can God’s people prepare to face tribulation in the End time?

1. Know God’s Prophecies about the End Time.

God has given us important details about the Antichrist:

·         His Character (vv.36-39; cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:4,9; Matthew 24:24)

·         His Conquests (vv.40-45)

  • His Contention against God’s people (12:1a,11; cf. Revelation 13:14-17

2. Trust in God’s Promises for Deliverance in the End Time.

·         (v.1b) “Thy people shall be delivered...”  (cf. Revelation 19:19-20)

·         The figures of duration in vv.7,11 & 12 emphasise that the tribulation will come to an end, and that blessedness will follow.

·         The ultimate deliverance will take the form of the resurrection from the dead (v.2,13) and the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

  • Only those whose names are written in the Book of Life will be delivered (v.1b, cf. Revelation 21:27; 20:12,15).

3. Understand God’s Purposes for the Tribulation of the End Time.

  • It will distinguish true believers from false believers (v.10).
  • It will purify the faith of true believers (v.10a).
  • Many unbelievers will be saved through them (v.3).

Questions for Personal Reflection:

1.      Why has God revealed so much about the End time in His Word?

2.      How can you know that your name is written in the Book of Life?

3.      How can you cope triumphantly in tribulation?
