Enduring Passion

Text: Jeremiah 1:1-10

I. Enduring passion is demonstrated differently at different times.
Jeremiah 1:1; 1 Samuel 4:21; Jeremiah 7:11-12; 2:13; 3:5b, 6, 21b; 4:22
II. Enduring passion is built on God’s calling.
Jeremiah 15:1-7; 20:1-6; 1:5
A. God knew Jeremiah before he was born (cf. Galatians 1:15).
B. God sanctified him (Jeremiah 1:5).
C. God called him to be a prophet (Jeremiah 1:6, 9; cf. Amos 3:8; Ezekiel 3:14).

III. Enduring passion perseveres hardships and trials.
Jeremiah 2:28; 3:2; 7:30-31
A. Jeremiah fought against evils (Jeremiah 1:7; cf. Isaiah 55:10-11; Jeremiah 1:9, 10).
B. Jeremiah fought against many fear factors (Jeremiah 1:8; 11:1-3).
C. Jeremiah fought against the religiosity of the day.
1. He spoke against it (Jeremiah 29:8-9; 23:30-32; 26:2; 42:4)
2. He spoke against the spirit of the times (Jeremiah 11:9-14, 19, 21, 22-23; 12:6; 16:2, 5, 8, 9-13
D. Jeremiah fought against his own hurts.
1. He protested to God (Jeremiah 12:1; 20:7-8, 9)
2. He fell into despair (Jeremiah 8:18; 15:10, 14, 15, 18; 20:10).
3. He had sorrows even in his ministry (Jeremiah 9:1; 14:17; 8:21-22; Lamentation 2:11).
4. He felt emotional ups and downs (Jeremiah 20:13-18)
IV. Enduring passion finds satisfaction in eternity.
Jeremiah 11:19; 4:19-20; 8:18-9:1
Conclusion
It was an enduring passion Jeremiah had for God that had enabled him to be faithful to the Lord till end.
