God Has Spoken (II)
Renewing Our Strength in the Lord
God Has Spoken
Life B-P Church Worship Service, 5th January 2025
Text: Hebrews 1:1-3
Why study the Book of Hebrews?
- It was written to Jewish believers whose faith needed to be renewed.
- It shows how Christ is superior to everyone else, and that He is everything we need.
- It emphasizes the importance of being faithful to the Lord.
- It helps us to unfold the mystery of seeing Christ in the Old Testament.
There are three amazing truths about Christ in His personal profile:
- Christ is the Final Revelation of God (v.1,2a)
- God had revealed Himself through the prophets by using many different modes of communication.
- But these revelations were only fragmentary and were meant to prepare for His final revelation.
- God revealed Himself to man perfectly in Jesus Christ since He is:
- ‘The brightness of His glory’ – External equality
- ‘The express image of His person’ – Internal equality
- John 14:7,9 – “If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also: and from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him.…
he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father.”
Question: Since Christ is God’s final revelation to man, what should we do if anyone adds to it or deviates from it?
- Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God (vv.2,3a)
- God appointed Him to be the heir of all things. This means that He is the rightful owner of the entire universe.
- God made all things through Him. (Cf. Colossians 1:16; Revelation 21:6)
- He upholds all things by the word of His power. If He stops sustaining all things, the universe would instantly disintegrate.
Question: Since the universe is so corrupted by sin why does Christ continue to sustain it?
- Christ is the Royal Priest of God (v.3b)
- He suffered and died for us on the cross to purge all our sins away and to purify us for Himself.
- He then ascended to heaven and is seated forever at the right hand of the Majesty on high. (Cf. Philippians 2:9-11)
- His finished work as our priest is evident from the posture that He takes – sitting down instead of standing.
Application: Since Christ has done everything that was needed to purge your sins away, should you still try to work for your salvation?
Questions for Personal Reflection:
- Since God has spoken through Christ, how should you treat His Word? (Cf. Matthew 17:5)
- How should what you have learned from Christ’s personal profile affect the way you treat Him?
- Who are you living for?
- What can you do to be spiritually renewed in the Lord?
