Text: Hebrews 4:14-16
I. Jesus Secures this Privilege for Us (v.14)
- He is our Great High Priest
- He is unlike the Old Testament High Priest
- He has entered into heaven and sat at the right hand of God
- He is the Son of God
- He finished the work of salvation for us
- He is our Mediator (1 Tim. 2:5)
II. Jesus Sympathizes with Us (v. 15)
- He is touched (feel the pain jointly together with us) with the feeling of our infirmities.
- He is tempted in all points (every kind or every major field of temptation)
- He is without sin (no latent sin in Him).
III. Jesus Succours Us (v. 16)
- Succour means run to rescue or bring an aid
- We come before His throne of grace and not justice.
- We come before His throne of grace with confidence.
- We will receive His mercy and grace in times of need (cf. Heb. 2:17-18)
Questions:
- How does the fact that Jesus has passed through the heavens change your perspective on and approaching God?
- In what ways do you see Jesus as able to sympathize with our weaknesses?
