VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2023
We thank God that we were able to have our Vacation Bible School (VBS) from 31 May to 2 June after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Planning for the VBS started last year in June when we approached some Lifers to form a committee to lead the VBS. Thank God that by November, we were able to have Directors and Heads of Departments on board. We were all ready to plan but at the same time feeling a sense of uncertainty. We were uncertain whether we would have sufficient helpers to come on board to serve. Also, we were unsure whether parents would be willing to send their children for the VBS. But we prayed and trusted the Lord’s goodness and His power to make this VBS 2023 possible. We thank God, with Him all things are possible, the Government in February this year, lowered the Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (Dorscon) from yellow to green level.
Therefore, the theme of this year’s VBS, “Mission (H)impossible” was most relevant and an encouragement to us.
As the registration for Lifers to serve in the VBS was announced in the church weekly and announcements after worship services, we saw more than 100 Lifers sign up as teachers and helpers in music, song leading, crafts, games, logistics, traffic, security, photography and Food and Beverage. As for children, we had more than 160 of them signing up. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, on the actual days of VBS, we had about 146 of them turning up. Nevertheless, we thank God for the good turnout.
During the VBS, the sun beat mercilessly upon us on the first and third day. On the second day, there was a torrential downpour. Despite the erratic weather, every one of us braved the heat and the wetness to serve God with cheerfulness.
The sisters in the Food and Beverage (F&B) team prepared scrumptious hawker food and home-made mayo with Japanese black sesame seed for breakfast to feed God’s army for the work ahead. The F&B teams also lovingly prepared snacks for the children during their break time.
It was amazing to see Lifers young and old serving the Lord during the VBS. There were no barriers and no generation gap but everyone united with one purpose to bring the good news of salvation to the children. Dn Benedict Sim and Shawn Lim with visuals and props, enthusiastically told the stories of Jesus calming the storm, the feeding of 5000 and the healing of the paralytic man during the three days. The stories and the gospel were reinforced by the teachers during class interaction time. The crafts and the games were also thoughtfully planned in alignment to the Bible stories that the children learnt.
It was also heartening to see the youths involved in the logistics, serving the children with snacks, cleaning the premises, arranging furniture and some did a dual role of helping out in the games.
We received a thank you note from a parent who wrote, “Both my kids attended Life BP’s VBS and thoroughly enjoyed it! I am dropping a message to thank everyone involved in this event. It is so heartwarming to see so many brothers and sisters in Christ coming together to serve the little children and to build them up in Christ. Our family is thankful for the lessons our children learnt and my kids said they have to be back next year again : ) We thank God for the amazing faithfulness of you involved in this VBS and rest assured seeds have been sown in the children’s lives. Thank you!”
Thank God for making this VBS possible and granting us safety and protection throughout the three days. We believe that the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of these children to save them according to His will. “For with God, nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37).
