GB FORTNIGHT 2024

The Girls’ Brigade Fortnight (GBFN) is an annual donation drive that supports our effort to help every GB girl fulfil her fullest potential. Striving towards the GB mission of “Every Girl a leader, every Officer a servant leader”; GBFN aims to assist the girls achieving this mission. This year’s fund collection will breakdown: 62% will go to the company programmes and leadership training; 26% to the Girls’ Brigade Singapore (GBHQ) community development and national events; and 12% to GBHQ organisational development and administration. The national target for this year’s GB Fortnight is S$800,000. The donation drive started on 28th July and will continue till 15th September 2024.

We are thankful that throughout the decades, God has been a faithful provider to the movement, allowing every Officer to do her very best amongst girls. Girls’ Brigade Fortnight (GBFN) exists beyond the needs of individual Companies and invests in the future of The Girls’ Brigade Singapore (GBHQ) and its work here in Singapore. What you do, impacts the next generation – just as we have benefited from those who have come before us.

For the past ten years, GB girls from Sembawang Secondary School had been coming to Life BPC to raise funds for GBFN (except during COVID-19 restricted period). However, this year the school has decided to cancel the GB Fortnight event in church due to an updated school policy that does not support students to be involved in events that fall on Sunday. Although the GB girls will not be physically present in our church for the fund raising, church members can donate to GB Fortnight 13th Company by using our church QR code with the "GBFN" remark. We thank you for your generosity in helping the GB girls fulfil their greatest potential. Please pray that the girls will not be discouraged if they cannot fill up their GB Fortnight donation cards as easily as they were able to do in previous years.

The GBFN collected funds will be used in the following categories:-

Enrichment Activities - To promote GB as a choice CCA and to ensure good member attendance. Some enrichment activities organised in the past years, e.g. Bubble Tea making workshop, prawning, Goat Farm education tour.

Uniform Items – To replenish the girls’ stock of old uniform parts, such as T-shirts, boots and dress as and when it is needed. The Volunteer Adult Leaders (VALs) and Teachers’ GB crest polo T-shirts to be purchased as and when needed.

Good Attendance Incentive - To acknowledge the members’ commitment level in the CCA and to encourage active participations.

Membership Fees – To be collected by GBHQ based on number of members including VALs and teachers.

Student Leadership Training Fees – To subsidise the course fees of the cost of the training fees charged by GBHQ.

Handicraft Materials – To purchase craft materials for the badgework handicraft activities, e.g. paper quilling.

Food and Beverages – To be used for fellowship and bonding during the Badgeworks break or after the parades or special event, e.g.  Easter Day celebration.

Miscellaneous – To be used for VAL GBHQ Training fees, transport costs for collection of items from GBHQ to school.

Last but not least, we would like to share the testimonies of the two senior girls at this year’s GB Enrolment service held in the church as attached below to give you an insight of their experience. Please pray with us that the hearts and minds of our GB Girls will be open towards the Gospel message and that the testimonies of Lifers will win them to Christ in due time.

Testimony by Corporal Ishaani

My name is Ishaani and I am the drill leader for the Company for the past two years. When I joined GB as a recruit, I did not know what GB was about at all. But as I attended GB regularly every week, there were many different things I learnt from values to life skills. GBK has played a huge role in educating me in different moral values such as the importance of being compassionate and kind towards one another. I would like to thank the aunties who had set aside their time to conduct GBK sessions for us.

I have many fond memories of my time in GB. There were two main activities that I enjoyed the most. The first activity was the bubble tea workshop in 2022. We got to create our very own bubble tea from scratch with our friends. Making the bubble tea was very entertaining. Another activity that I enjoyed the most was the camp in 2024. This event was unique to all the other activities we did in GB. I got to know the juniors better and I learnt how to adapt to the conditions quickly. We had to sleep in classrooms that were unbelievably hot. In spite of this, the camp was definitely a great experience for me.

There are many people I would like to thank in this journey. To the officers and volunteers from Life Bible-Presbyterian Church, I would like to thank you for your time and patience in contributing to the company. I would like to thank my teachers for being really patient with us for the past 3 years and for the valuable lessons learnt.

To my GB Juniors, believe in yourselves that you can improve on the drills and persevere through the setbacks as well. Setbacks are a natural part of any learning journey. Don’t let them discourage you, instead use them as opportunities to learn and adapt to grow stronger. Lastly, enjoy your journey in this CCA, cherish the moments with your friends. Your time in this CCA is fleeting, make the most of it and create lasting memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Testimony by Corporal Lakshita

My name is Lakshita. As a Sec 4 graduate from 13th Company, I am excited to be here today to share about my 4 years journey in Girls’ Brigade.

I am grateful for the incredible opportunity to be a part of the Girls’ Brigade, and I can honestly say that it has been a transformational journey. From the moment that I joined, I felt a sense of belonging and camaraderie that would be hard to find elsewhere.

One of the most significant aspects of my experience in Girls’ Brigade had been the emphasis on personal development. Through various activities and challenges, I have had the chance to push myself out of my comfort zone. I enjoyed taking part in the leadership conference, community service projects such as GB VIA, GB Day, GB Fortnight and the outdoor adventures such as GB Camp, taking part in drills competition, visit to Hay Dairies Goat Farm. These experiences had helped me built my confidence and taught me valuable life skills that I could apply for life.

GB is not just about individual growth; Girls’ Brigade is also about fostering a sense of community and sisterhood. I have made lifelong friendships through this CCA with peers who have supported me, laughed with me, and shared unforgettable memories. The bonds formed within Girls’ Brigade had gone beyond mere friendship; they are like family.

Moreover, Girls’ Brigade has provided me with opportunities for spiritual growth and reflection. Through discussions, retreats, and engaging with mentors, I have been able to explore my faith in a supportive environment, deepen my understanding of myself and my beliefs.

Overall, my experience in Girls’ Brigade has been nothing short of enriching. It has empowered me to become the best version of myself, equipped with valuable skills, and surrounded me with a community of inspiring individuals. I am grateful for every moment I spent in this CCA and look forward to continuing this journey of growth and sisterhood.

Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to the officers and volunteers of Life Bible-Presbyterian Church, teachers and school leaders from Sembawang Secondary School for supporting me through my journey in Girls’ Brigade 13th Company.
