GIRLS’ BRIGADE 13TH COMPANY ENROLMENT SERVICE 2025
(by the Life B-P Church GB Committee)
A “Hidden” Treasure
The Girls’ Brigade (GB) is a Christian youth organization for girls endorsed by MOE as a Uniform Group Co-Circular Activity (CCA) in schools. MOE recognizes that such uniform group CCA is driven by adult volunteers working within the school to play an important role in character development and mentoring. Since 2013, our church has been involved as the sponsoring church in the 13th Singapore Company of the GB in Sembawang Secondary School.
It is a “hidden” treasure as a local mission field for a unique outreach to primarily non-Christian students ages 13 to 17. For as long as the policy permits adult volunteers to play a role in the uniform groups, the GB ministry provides direct legitimate opportunities for our church volunteers to serve and care for the youths in Sembawang Secondary School. It is a privilege to be in a position to sow the seeds while we are entrusted with the girls’ well-being for a stretch of 3 to 4 years for every new cohort recruited into 13th Company. This process is carried out in partnership with the school and GB Headquarters while abiding by the requirements of MOE. We treasure such a platform where it is openly made known to the students and their parents that GB is a Christian CCA. The GB curriculums are structured in the 4-fold program to inculcate the GB girls in the spiritual, physical, educational and social aspects of development. These objectives are modeled after Luke 2:52, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”
How has GB benefitted the girls?
One of the objectives of GB is to train “every girl a leader”. Over the past years, we see the Lord’s grace and mercy as some of the girls in the 13th Company were chosen as student leaders, received school awards, and scored well in the examinations at the end of their Secondary School education. Based on previous feedback from the Vice-Principals and the Head of Department (CCA) of Sembawang Secondary School - “The school is appreciative of how GB has trained young ladies to excel not just in character but also in academics.” This year’s Enrolment Service is no exception where two young ladies will come forth to give their testimonies. They are noted for being good examples for the GB girls but are also exemplary school role models.
We thank God for leading Shirley Loong (GB alumni 2022) to volunteer her service to support GB ministry. Shirley started to participate in GB-CCA events in 2023 and avails herself to assist in the drill training for the GB girls despite her heavy polytechnic workload. Shirley indeed is a role model for the GB alumni who demonstrated the leadership quality cultivated by GB in grooming “every girl a leader”. We also thank God that her parent’s objection to her coming to church physically did not prevent her desire to sit at the feet of Jesus - since the end of 2024 she has been joining some ladies in virtual Bible Study on Friday evenings.
How has GB benefitted the church?
The GB Motto is Seek, Serve, and Follow Christ. We are thankful to God that some girls have been called to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and were baptized.
Within Life B-P Church, the GB ministry has spurred a group of ladies to serve, willingly availing themselves to undergo GB officers’ training to be qualified as VALs (Volunteer Adult Leaders) to meet the GBHQ and school’s requirements. They travel to Sembawang Secondary School to support every GB-CCA planned session, e.g. CCA Open House, teach character development lessons, conduct group discussions, games, craft works, life skills workshops and support drill training. The GB Committee also organized various fellowship events (e.g. Easter celebration, GB Camp, and excursions for educational workshop). By constantly interacting and bonding with the girls, the GB ministry desires to seize every opportunity to share the good news with the GB girls. The GB committee aims to express God’s love in action, to love one another and to be the light to shine for Christ. Indeed, the GB Ministry has created numerous meaningful opportunities for Lifers to share the Gospel, to teach, to befriend, to encourage, and be blessed through service. The seeds have been planted on various occasions, such as during the badgeworks lessons, during interaction at the enrolment ceremony and fortnight services held in Life church. We trust that in due time, it will germinate, grow, and bear fruit (cf. 1 Corinthians 3:6).
How can Lifers continue to support this local mission?
Your service, presence, and prayers over the past 12 years is much appreciated. We covet your prayers continually. Everything done right is surely through your prayer support. Likewise, any areas for improvement will need your prayer support as well for it is not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Almighty Lord.” (cf. Zechariah 4:6).
The following are thanksgiving and prayer items for 2025:
- We give God the glory for His faithfulness in sustaining the strength of the 13th company and GB Committee these twelve years.
- We give God the glory for His goodness through His provision of resources, both manpower and funds. Thank God for twelve recruits in 2025. Thank God for providing one new Christian teacher and two new non-Christian teachers to support GB CCA.
- Please pray for good collaboration and harmony among GB teachers, VALs and GB Committee in executing the GB programs for the 13th
- Please pray for wisdom for the GB Committee to seize the opportunities to sow the seed, co-labour together as a team in unity, extend our love and care to the GB girls through prayers and while interacting with them during the GB CCA sessions.
- Please pray for wisdom, strength and perseverance for the GB Committee to deliver all planned programs per 2025 workplan, e.g. GB Camp, Character Development lessons, excursions and life skills programs.
- Please pray for a smooth execution of the GB Enrolment Service on 15th March 2025.
John 15:8 tells us what fruitfulness accomplishes. It says this: “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit.” So, fruitfulness is God-glorifying.
Shorter Catechism Question 38
38. What benefits do believers receive from Christ at the resurrection?
At the resurrection, believers, being raised up in glory, shall be openly acknowledged and acquitted in the day of judgment, and made perfectly blessed in the full enjoying of God to all eternity.

Date: 26 April 2025
Time: 4-6pm
Venue: Beulah MPH
Speaker: Dr Loh Keh Chuan
We all have to face ageing, sickness and death as we pass through life’s journey on earth. The majority of us will encounter critical illness at some point in our lives. We do not ponder on the prospect of imminent death until critical illness strikes.
This Seminar will:
- provide an overview and conceptual understanding on the biology of ageing, sickness and death that God programmed in our DNA since the fall of man.
- focus on cancer as example of critical illness. This is pertinent because one in three people will develop cancer in their lifetime.
- explore both the biblical perspective on coping with terminal illness and the medical perspective on diagnosis and treatment of cancers.
